3M™ High Strength Acrylic Adhesive 300LSE Installation Guide

Kennel Gear USA surface mount products with adhesive backing use 3M™ High Strength Acrylic Adhesive 300LSE — a professional-grade, high-tack adhesive engineered for demanding bonding applications. Follow these instructions carefully to achieve maximum bond strength and long-term mounting reliability.

Summary: Thoroughly clean both bonding surfaces with a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water mixture and allow to dry completely. Apply the mount at surface temperatures between 70°F and 100°F (21°C to 38°C) using firm, uniform pressure. Allow a minimum of one hour before placing the system in service, and 72 hours for full cure.

Step 1 — Surface Preparation

Proper surface preparation is the most critical factor in achieving a complete, lasting bond. The adhesive must be able to fully wet out and make direct contact with the bonding surface — contamination of any kind will compromise adhesion.

  • Clean both surfaces: Wipe down all bonding surfaces using a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water. For surfaces with heavy grease, oil, or grime buildup, use a stronger solvent such as heptane or a commercial degreaser prior to the IPA/water wipe.
  • Dry completely: Allow surfaces to dry fully before applying the mount. Any residual dust, lint, wax, or oil will interfere with adhesive contact and reduce bond strength.

Step 2 — Temperature Requirements

  • Ideal application temperature: Apply in environments where surface temperatures are between 70°F and 100°F (21°C to 38°C).
  • Cold weather: Do not apply if surface temperatures are below 50°F (10°C). At low temperatures the adhesive stiffens and will not make proper contact with the bonding surface. Once a bond has been correctly established, it will hold well in low-temperature conditions.

Step 3 — Application and Pressure

  • Apply without stretching: Position the mount smoothly onto the surface to avoid trapping air bubbles between the adhesive and the bonding surface.
  • Apply firm, uniform pressure: Bond strength is directly related to the degree of adhesive-to-surface contact achieved during application. Press the mount firmly by hand across the entire surface. Where possible, use a J-roller, rubber roller, or flat heavy object to apply even pressure of approximately 15 PSI or greater across the full bonding area.

Pro Tip: When bonding to highly textured materials or rigid plastics where maximum immediate adhesion is needed, applying moderate heat — between 100°F and 130°F — to the bond line for a short period will help the adhesive flow and improve initial surface contact.

Step 4 — Cure Schedule

3M™ High Strength Acrylic Adhesive 300LSE features high initial tack but continues to flow and wet out into the microscopic surface structure of the bonding material over time. Do not subject the mount to full service loads until the adhesive has had adequate time to cure.

  • 20 minutes: Approximately 50% of ultimate bond strength achieved
  • 24 hours: Approximately 90% of ultimate bond strength achieved
  • 72 hours: 100% full cure — maximum bond strength

For standard installations, allow a minimum of one hour before placing the bowl or pail system in service. For high-demand or heavy-use environments, allowing a full 24 hours before use is strongly recommended.
