Kennel Gear System Compatibility Guide
Kennel Gear systems are engineered as modular, interchangeable components. This guide explains how insert blocks, yokes, bowls, pails, and mounting options work together so you can confidently select the correct configuration for your installation.
Insert Block & Component Compatibility
All Kennel Gear insert blocks—metal or plastic—are compatible with all Kennel Gear mounting options. For optimal durability and consistent long-term performance, metal components should be paired with metal mounting hardware, and plastic components should be paired with plastic mounting hardware.
Component configurations are as follows:
- Stainless steel bowls use either aluminum or stainless steel yokes, and all yokes include an integrated insert block.
- Plastic bowls and Supply Caddies include an integrated insert block molded as part of the unit.
- Stainless steel pails include an attached insert block.
- IV poles and HD Supply Caddies also include an integrated insert block molded as part of the unit.
Because insert blocks interface directly with the mounting system, all of the above components are compatible with Kennel Gear mounting options when properly matched by material.
Mounting Option Compatibility
Surface Mount Systems
- Ideally designed for flat surfaces
- Compatible with wood, composite panels, sheet metal, and similar materials
- Attach using fasteners appropriate for the installation surface
Metal Bar Mount Systems
- Designed for vertical or horizontal bar applications
- Standard systems include 3/4" long metal thumbscrews
- Metal back plate thickness: 1/8"
Bar Mount Clearances Guide
Proper bar mount clearance is essential to ensure correct fitment on kennel panels, crate doors, and bar systems. Clearance refers to the inside spacing between the thumbscrews on the mount, which determines the maximum bar spacing the mount can properly accommodate. Review the specifications below to select the appropriate mount width for your installation.

Important: Always measure the spacing between vertical bars before selecting your mount. Choosing a mount with insufficient clearance may prevent proper installation, while excessive clearance can reduce stability.
Bar Mount Clamping Thickness Guide
Standard 3/4" thumbscrews provide 3/8" of usable clamping depth after accounting for the 1/8" back plate and 1/4" minimum engagement requirement.
For bars thicker than 3/8", longer thumbscrews must be selected to maintain proper thread engagement and secure mounting.
Important: Selecting thumbscrews that are excessively long for the bar thickness may result in the screw extending inward and making contact with the bowl or pail once attached to the mount. Proper screw length selection ensures secure engagement without internal interference.

Plastic Bar Mount Systems
- Designed for vertical or horizontal bar applications
- Plastic Surface Mount thickness: 1/2"
- Plastic Back Plate thickness: 3/8"
- Plastic Bar Mount: 3 5/8" Wide x 2" Tall
- Include 1.00" plastic thumbscrews standard
- Optional 1.25" and 1.5" plastic thumbscrews available
Because Plastic Bar Mount Systems utilize a 3/8" back plate, usable clamping depth differs from metal systems.

Feeding & Watering System Compatibility
All bowls and pails are interchangeable within their respective system sizes. Replacement components are designed to fit existing Kennel Gear systems without modification.
- Bowls are designed for feeding applications.
- Pails are designed for watering applications.
- Mounting selection is determined by installation surface—not by bowl or pail type.
All systems utilize Piranha Lox® locking technology to provide secure, tool-free removal while maintaining fixed-position stability in kennel, transport, and facility environments.
