The .5" is the shortest stainless thumbscrew in the Kennel Gear lineup, for bar mount installations where the clamped material is too thin for the standard .75" replacement stainless steel thumbscrew to seat correctly. A thumbscrew longer than the clamped material requires will protrude behind the insert cavity and make contact with the bowl or pail body, preventing the yoke or insert block from sliding down fully into the cavity and engaging the locking mechanism.
